Privacy Policy Last Updated: October 1, 2024 (“Effective Date”)

New Leaders, Inc., (“New Leaders,” “we,” or “us,” or “our”) cares about your privacy and recognizes the importance of protecting your personal information. New Leaders is a nonprofit dedicated to ensuring high academic achievement for all children, especially students in poverty and students of color, by developing transformational school leaders and advancing the policies and practices that allow great leaders to succeed. 

This Privacy Policy describes the personal information New Leaders collects about you, how we use and share that personal information, and the privacy choices that we offer. This Privacy Policy applies to personal information we collect when you use the New Leaders website (the “Website”) and the New Leaders Portal, including the Learning Hub and Alumni Hub (the “Portal”) (collectively, the “Sites”), as well as personal information we collect offline or via other channels to provide our services (for example, from your school district). By accessing our Sites, you agree to our collection and use of personal information as described in this Privacy Policy and our Terms of Use

Please carefully review the following Privacy Policy before using the Sites for any purpose. If you do not agree or are not comfortable with any policy described in this Privacy Policy, you should discontinue your use of the Sites. By providing us with any information via the Sites, you represent that you are authorized to disclose and provide us with such information and that the information you provide us is true and accurate. 

Personal Information We May Collect

We collect your personal information when you visit our Sites, request information about our services, subscribe to our newsletter, attend information sessions, provide a donation, or otherwise interact with the Sites or New Leaders.

The personal information we collect may include your name, contact information (e.g., email, telephone number, physical address), employer and your title, and other information you may provide to us. Additionally, as described below, we may automatically collect information related to cookies or web tracking technologies, such as IP address, browser and device type, and information about your interactions with our Sites and advertisements.  

Additionally, if you use our Portal, we may collect additional personal information from you, including:

  • information about your academic and professional background to enroll you in the services and other New Leaders programming or services (for example, your academic degree level, your years of experience as an educator, or your professional certifications), and

  • application responses for application-based programs (for example, your demographic information, your criminal history, and emergency contact information).

If you use the Portal, you may modify or add information in your member profile at any time by using the applicable feature or sending a request to change the information to programsupport@newleaders.org. Other information we collect from you, such as responses to Surveys, will not be modifiable after it is submitted. 

How We May Use the Personal Information You Provide

We may use the personal information that you provide through our Sites (including the Portal) or that we collect from other third parties, such as from school districts:

  • in connection with programming and services offered by New Leaders in which you are enrolled,
  • in connection with your use of the services,
  • for offering you a single sign-in experience to various websites used in connection with our programming and services,
  • to manage your account,
  • to communicate with you,
  • to update your information in our database,
  • to process your application or other request,
  • to administer the Portal and its systems,
  • to analyze Website and Portal usage and improve our products and services,
  • for research and analytics purposes, 
  • to prevent fraud, activities that violate our Terms of Use or that are illegal,
  • to troubleshoot, monitor and improve our Sites,
  • to protect our rights and the rights and safety of our users and others, and
  • to contact you with news, updates or other information about or in connection with the programming and other services we provide.

How We May Disclose the Personal Information You Provide

We may share your personal information with service providers that help us operate our business, including facilitating email communications, IT services, third-party payment processors for donations, and other business-related functions.

If you use the Portal, any personal information posted by you on the Portal’s member profile and your recent activity on the Portal (e.g., posts on message boards or public forums) will be accessible and visible to other members and guests of the Portal. We may disclose this personal information posted by you on the Portal to your school district or comparable entity in connection with our services. We recommend that you always use caution when giving out any personal information about yourself or information about your school or school district. You may update your member profile to hide certain types of information about yourself. 

We may also disclose your personal information as required or permitted by law to comply with a subpoena or similar legal process or government request, or when we believe in good faith that disclosure is legally required or otherwise necessary to protect our or others’ rights, property, or safety, including to law enforcement agencies, and judicial and regulatory authorities. Additionally, we may disclose your personal information to third parties to help detect and protect against fraud or data security vulnerabilities. And we may transfer or disclose your personal information to a third party in the event of an actual or proposed sale, merger, reorganization of our entity or other restructuring.

Use of Cookies and Other Internet or Tracking Technologies 

Cookies are small, sometimes encrypted text files that are stored on computer hard drives by websites that you visit. They are used to help users navigate websites efficiently as well as to provide information to the owner of the websites. When you visit our Sites, we may place a “cookie” or other online tracking device (e.g., web beacons) that recognizes you when you visit our Sites. These are used for technical convenience to store information on your computer. For instance, we may use a session cookie to store form information that you have entered so that you do not have to enter such information again. We may use information stored in such text files and images to customise your experience on our Sites and to monitor use of our Sites. 

You may set your browser to notify you when you receive a cookie. Many web browsers also allow you to block cookies. If you block cookies, you may not be able to access certain parts of this website. You can disable cookies from your computer system by following the instructions on your browser or at www.youradchoices.com.

We also may contract with third parties who may use cookies or other tracking technologies to collect information on our behalf or provide services such as promotional services, data management, or website troubleshooting and analytics. Additionally, we also allow third parties to set cookies and assign identifiers used by tracking technologies when you visit our Sites that may collect information about your online activities over time and across different websites, applications or other online platforms. These third parties may use such information to, for example, provide analytics information or to offer products or services in which you may be interested, and they may combine information about your activities across different websites, applications or other online platforms to do so.

We use Google Analytics to evaluate the use of our Sites. Google Analytics uses cookies and other identifiers to collect information, such as how often users visit our Sites, what pages they visit when they do so, and what other websites they visited prior to visiting our Sites. New Leaders may use YouTube to display video content on our Sites. YouTube incorporates tracking technologies, which may be present in the YouTube videos embedded on our Sites, and which may collect information from your browser when you view the video on our Sites, including device identifiers and/or cookie IDs. This information is collected directly and automatically by YouTube and its partners. New Leaders does not directly provide any information, such as user names, to YouTube.

Do Not Track 

We do not respond to Do Not Track (DNT) header signals at this time. 

California Shine the Light

California Civil Code Section 1798.83, also known as the “Shine the Light” law, permits California residents that have an established business relationship with a business to annually request, free of charge, information about certain categories of personal information a business has disclosed to third parties for those parties’ direct marketing purposes in the preceding calendar year. Opt-out Options

If you do not wish to receive periodic emails from us with news and Website updates, you may opt-out of receiving such communications in the future by sending an email to marketing@newleaders.org or, if applicable, by following the instructions on our email newsletters or notices. In addition, if you use the Portal, you may opt-out of receiving such communications by sending an email to programsupport@newleaders.org or, if applicable, by following the instructions on our email newsletters or notices. If you elect to notify us by email, please include your full name and email address and indicate “unsubscribe from email updates” in the subject line. It may take a few days or longer to process your request during which time you may still receive such communications from us. You may also still receive administrative or program-related emails from us, and we may also contact you to request additional information and feedback.

Updating Your Account Information

If you have an account on the Website, you can update your account information by sending an email to marketing@newleaders.org to notify us of your updated information. You are responsible for providing us with your current email address. In the event the last email address that you have provided to us is not valid, or for any other reason is not capable of delivering to you any notice described in this Privacy Policy, our dispatch of the email containing such notice will nonetheless constitute effective notice. 

Personal Information of Minors

Our products and services are not directed to minors under the age of 13 and we do not knowingly collect the personal information of minors under 13.  

International Users

Our Sites are intended for use in and by individuals in the United States. Personal information collected from you, including via the Website or the Portal, will be transferred to New Leaders in the United States where our Sites are hosted. You hereby consent to the transfer of your personal information to the United States. Please do not use our Sites if you do not agree to the transfer and processing of your personal information by New Leaders as described in this Privacy Policy or if it is illegal to do so in your home country.

How We Keep Your Personal Information Secure

We implement and maintain reasonable security measures appropriate to the nature of the personal information that we collect, use, retain, transfer or otherwise process. Those measures include administrative, physical, and technical safeguards to protect the security, confidentiality, and integrity of personal information. However, data security incidents and breaches can occur due to a variety of factors that cannot reasonably be prevented; therefore, our safeguards may not always be adequate to prevent all breaches of security.  

Other Websites and Social Media Buttons

Our Sites may contain links to third-party websites. This Privacy Policy does not govern how those third parties collect or use personal information and we do not endorse or have control over their practices. The privacy policies and terms of use for those third parties’ websites govern those companies’ privacy practices. We are not responsible for the content or privacy practices of any third-party websites or platforms.

Changes to This Policy

We will review and update this Privacy Policy as required to keep current with rules and regulations, new technologies, and security standards. We will post those changes on the Website or update the “last updated” date of the Privacy Policy. If the changes are material, you will be notified via a notice on our Website.
