Texas educators are eligible to enroll in the:

• Fellowship at Clark Atlanta University for the Principal Certification Track or Master's + Certification Track‍
• Fellowship at Bank Street College for the Principal Certification Track or Master's + Certification Track

The Fellowship (a state-approved principal preparation program) meets educational requirements for the Standard Principal Certificate in Texas.

Step One: Secure an Indiana Building Level Administrator License

Because the Fellowship has an Indiana-based approval, participants who complete the Fellowship will first need to meet additional requirements to secure an Indiana Building Level Administrator License. 

Requirements for licensure in Indiana can be found on the Indiana Department of Education website and may include, but are not limited to:

• Verifying no. of years of previous experience as an educator and/or possession of an eligible educator license
• Verifying possession of a Master’s degree from a regionally accredited institution (Transcript)
• Passing a background check
• Meeting a minimum GPA
• Achieving a passing score of the state’s licensure exam
• Completing additional training

Step Two: Use Indiana Building Level Administrator License to Apply for Texas License

Note: Note candidates who have not taken the Texas exam may be eligible for a one-year license. They must complete the exam during the license period. Additionally, candidates who have taken an exam in another state and hold a standard license may apply for exemption from some or all Texas tests.

The Fellowship is currently pending approval with the State of New York. Pending final approval, participants who complete the Fellowship will first need to meet additional requirements to secure a New York Initial Certificate - School Building Leader. 

Requirements for licensure in New York can be found on the New York State Department of Education website (Use the following dropdown selections: Administration and Personnel Services; School Administration and Supervision; Pre K-12 - All Grades; School Building Leader; Initial Certificate) and may include, but are not limited to:

• Verifying possession of a Master’s degree or higher
• Verifying no. of years of previous experience as an educator and/or possession of an eligible educator license

• Eligible pupil service roles include: School Counselor, School Psychology, School Social Worker, School Attendance Teacher, School Nurse Teacher, and School Dental Hygienist.

• Passing a background check
• Passing Parts 1 & 2 of the School Building Leader exam with a 520 or higher
• Completing additional training

‍In addition to completing a state-approved principal preparation program, candidates will need to meet Colorado’s licensure/certification requirements as described on the Colorado Department of Education website.

‍Additional requirements for licensure/certification may include, but are not limited to:

• Verifying no. of years of previous experience as an educator and/or possession of an eligible educator license
• Verifying possession of a Master’s degree from a regionally accredited institution (Transcript)
• Verifying completion of a state-approved program (Institutional Recommendation)
• Passing a background check
• Meeting a minimum GPA
• Achieving a passing score of the state’s licensure exam
• Completing additional training

Alaska educators are eligible to enroll in the:

• Fellowship at Clark Atlanta University for the Principal Certification Track or Master's + Certification Track‍
• Fellowship at Bank Street College for the Principal Certification Track or Master's + Certification Track

The Fellowship (a state-approved principal preparation program) meets educational requirements for the Initial Administrative (Type B) License in Alaska.

From Fellowship to Principalship

Candidates enrolled in the Fellowship at Clark Atlanta University 

In addition to completing a state-approved principal preparation program, candidates will need to meet Alaska’s licensure/certification requirements as described on the Alaska Department of Education and Early Development website. 

Note: If not previously completed, candidates will need to complete additional coursework outside of the Fellowship, including:

• Three (3) semester hours of approved Alaska studies; 
• Three (3) semester hours of approved multicultural education/cross-cultural communications

The Fellowship’s Masters + Certification Track (a state-approved principal preparation program) meets the educational requirements for the Standard Professional Principal Certificate in Arizona.

In addition to completing a state-approved principal preparation program, candidates will need to meet Arizona’s licensure/certification requirements as described on Arizona’s Department of Education website.

Note: If not previously completed, Arizona requires candidates to take U.S. and Arizona State Constitution courses, which candidates must take outside of the program. A certificate may be issued without meeting these requirements, find more information here.
